What is Intermittent Fasting?

Have you heard all the hype around intermittent fasting? We were reluctant to hop on board, because we don’t believe that there is one way to eat (or NOT eat). The Conscious Cleanse philosophy is that each of us has a unique blueprint for our bodies.

But, as we started to dig into intermittent fasting, what we LOVED was how it retrains your body to switch from sugar burning to fat burning. Most of us coast on our sugar burning system and never allow our bodies the time and space to deeply rest and heal.

Intermittent Fasting has been shown to:

  • Stimulate growth hormone
  • Regenerate stem cells
  • Stabilize blood sugar
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve memory
  • Slow the aging process
  • And much more!

How does it work? Well, it depends on your body. Intermittent Fasting is basically just an eating schedule with periods of fasting. Once you stop eating for the day, your fast continues through the night until the next morning or early afternoon.

This might look like eating during 8 hours of the day and fasting for the remaining 16 (a popular fasting schedule).

People with female sex hormones need to pay special attention to their fasting schedule. From menstruation to menopause, your fasting plan needs to be tailored to your hormones or menstrual cycle. Otherwise, IF can negatively impact hormone production over time.
