Jo’s Favorite Things: Spring Edition

Spring always feels like a fresh start to me. The days are getting longer, the farmers market is back, and I find myself craving lighter foods, more movement, and more sunshine.

Lately, I’ve been leaning into some new routines and a few old favorites that are making me feel genuinely good, and I wanted to share them with you!

Here are 12 things I’m loving this spring:

  1. At-home ice baths for my face.
It might sound intense, but hear me out: a bowl of ice water first thing in the morning is an effective (and free!) way to reduce puffiness, tighten pores, and wake yourself up without caffeine. I just do a few rounds of 10–15 seconds. My skin has never looked better!
  2. Joovv Red Light Panel.
I’ve been a Joovv fan for a while now. But this spring I’ve been really consistent with it and I’m noticing the difference: more energy, better skin, and faster muscle recovery. I do a 10-minute session most mornings while I’m reading or listening to a podcast.
  3. Ozuké fermented foods.
Ozuké makes gut health so easy and delicious! Their kimchi and krauts are all natural ferments, so they’re full of live probiotics. I’ve been adding a scoop to my lunch almost every day. If you haven’t tried them, grab some and do your microbiome a favor.
  4. Getting direct sunlight within 30 minutes of waking up.
Since I started doing this, I’ve been noticing the differences in my sleep, mood, and energy. It’s also super easy to fit into any routine. I step outside every morning (even just for 5–10 minutes with my matcha) without sunglasses, and I let the light hit my eyes and skin.
  5. Sauna with my bestie 1x per week.
Who says detox can’t be social? I’ve been doing a weekly sauna session with my best friend, and it has become the highlight of my week. We’re enjoying our screen-free quality time, sweating and having real conversations. It’s the best mix of connection and self-care, and I leave feeling renewed every time.
  6. Quinton minerals
This has been my go-to source of minerals for years. Quinton makes supplements from marine plasma minerals, which are one of the most bioavailable ways to remineralize your body. I do 1-2 isotonic ampoules in the morning and swish in my mouth for 30-60 seconds. It’s great for absorption and oral health, and I really feel a difference in my energy and hydration.
  7. Dr. Mindy Pelz’s Podcast
If you’re not already listening to The Resetter podcast, add it to your list. In it, Dr. Pelz talks about fasting, hormones, metabolic health, and how to work with your biology. I’ve been listening on my morning walks and find a new helpful nugget in every episode.
  8. A daily 10 minute after-dinner walk with my kids.
This has become my favorite 10 minutes of the day! I get quality time with my kids, we slow down and take in our surroundings together, and we all get a little digestive boost in the process. Taking these after-dinner walks also helps with blood sugar regulation and winding down for sleep.
  9. D-Hist for spring allergies.
If you know me, you know I used to have terrible spring allergies. Since starting the Conscious Cleanse, they barely bother me anymore. But when the allergy season is worse than normal (like this year), D-Hist by Orthomolecular is my go-to natural support when I’m feeling any symptoms. It uses quercetin, bromelain, stinging nettles, and N-Acetyl Cysteine to naturally support histamine balance.
  10. The Plastic Detox on Netflix.
After watching this documentary, I could not stop thinking about it for days. I’ve always been reactive to plastic. As a kid, if my mom cooked anything in plastic I’d have an allergic reaction. If you want to know more about why we need to remove plastics from our homes and environment, this is a must-watch!
  11. Shopping at Nude Foods
If you’re a Boulder or Denver local and you haven’t been to Nude Foods yet, pay them a visit. It’s a zero-waste grocery store, full of fresh, local, package-free food. Shopping there feels good in every sense of the word.
  12. Teaching Yoga at Boulder Yoga Studio
I recently started teaching at Boulder Yoga Studio, and I am completely in love with this community. Each class has such great energy, with wonderful students and teachers. If you’ve been thinking about dropping in for a class, I would love to see your face there! It’s become one of my greatest joys this season.

Here’s to slowing down, soaking up the sun, and choosing the things that make us feel alive.
